Kalamaki village
Kalamaki Village is a developing area, situated 2.5 km from Kamilari, with a beautiful beach covered in golden sand. It is also an archaeological site, with a church from the 18th century. The area is a nesting ground for Caretta-Caretta tortoises and has been inhabited during Minoan, Hellenistic, and Roman periods. Kalamaki is close to Kommos, another archaeological site, and is gradually becoming a modern seaside resort.
Kokkinos Pirgos
The name of Kokkinos Pyrgos is due to the tower that used to be there and which was built of red soil. However it is unknown the reason why this tower was built in that place.
The port of Kokkinos Pyrgos thoush, players an important role in the trade of the island in the distant past because of its strategic position.
Komos beach
Kommos, located near Matala in Crete, Greece, was once the port of Phaestus and now features ruins of the old port on the beach. The area is known for its westerly winds, rocky seabed, and as a nesting site for protected loggerhead sea turtles. The northern part of Kommos, Potamoserma, is popular with naturists and the southern part has an organized beach with facilities.
Matala beach
Matala, a village in Crete, Greece, is known for its artificial caves from the Neolithic Age, Minoan and Roman periods. The caves are believed to have been living spaces and were later occupied by hippies in the 1960s. Today, Matala is a popular tourist destination with shops, bars and an annual Beach Festival in June.
